Collaborations
Based on these collaborations, Anna Roberts developed insight through the role of Transdisciplinarity. Through approaching these experts, she was able to make connections and analyse other perspectives in order to uncover a better understanding of this project and create a unity of knowledge.
The dominance of the scientific discipline was one aspect that Anna did not want to fully overwhelm the project; however, she discovered the importance of bringing a scientific perspective to not only provide knowledge, but to also question the authority of science as a discipline and the value of botany within medicine.
By using these collaborations towards an artistic exhibition, it removed the institutionalisation from the experts and allowed for creative discussions and mutual learning. On the other hand, as Anna Roberts works within an institution, she benefitted from the structure and opportunities provided, that enabled her to interact with experts, in developing this transdisciplinary approach.
Anna Roberts' Collaborations
Professor Partha Vauide
PLASTIC SURGEON AND CO-FOUNDER OF SURGICAL ART
He is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeon, educational innovator and managing director/faculty lead for Surgical Art - an innovative Liverpool based surgical training organisation. It is at Surgical Art (www.surgical-art.com) that Prof Vaiude spends much of his time bringing together his passions for surgery and art, teaching both surgical skills and the principles of art in relation to reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.
Milos Simpraga
DIGITAL IMAGING TECHNICIAN
Currently working in the Liverpool School of Art and Design. Milos works with Carlos Santos Barea as an Imaging Technician. His interests concern animation with specific interest for Augmented and Virtual Reality.
Professor Michael D. Jenkinson
CONSULTANT NEUROSURGEON
Research focused on:Â Neurosurgical oncology for intrinsic brain tumours including awake craniotomy and intra-operative brain mapping for low grade glioma, midline approaches deep intrinsic tumours and stereotactic radio-surgery.
Mark Roughley
3D DIGITAL ARTIST AND PROGRAMME LEADER
Mark is a Lecturer in 3D Digital Art at Liverpool School of Art and Design and a member of the Face Lab research group that explores faces and art-science applications. Mark trained as a medical artist, gaining his MSc in Medical Art from the University of Dundee, and specialises in visualising anatomy through 3D data acquisition, modelling and fabrication. His research focuses on the affordances that 3D digital technologies allow for both digital and haptic interaction with anatomical and cultural artefacts. He is the host of the art-science Liverpool LASER Talks (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) and a Section Editor for the Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine.
Adam Roberts
FILM PRODUCTION STUDENT
Adam is currently a student at York University studying Film Production, his interests mainly lie in TV and Sport, but he also has an interest in script writing. His current projects look towards developing film soundscapes.
How They Collaborated?
ANNA ROBERTS
Partha Vauide
PLASTIC SURGEON AND CO-FOUNDER OF SURGICAL ART
Partha helped me form the concept for my exhibition through his interest into aquariums, botany and his experience with neurosurgery. We arranged frequent zoom calls with him and his colleague Amy Honey, who provided key insights and ideas on how to approach visualising my research
Milos Simpraga
DIGITAL IMAGING TECHNICIAN
Milos' experience with augmented reality, provided a key tool into creating my own AR filter that is designed to illustrate the growth of the brain tumour Glioblastoma. We arranged several zoom calls to discuss how to animate my digital illustrations and render then three dimensional so they could be used within an external space.
Professor Michael D Jenkinson
CONSULTANT NEUROSURGEON
Professor Jenkinson's research area into intra-operative brain mapping, provided insight into the implementation of Gleolan solution, that helps to identify brain tumours by glowing magenta. I conversed with him via e-mail...
Mark Roughley
3D DIGITAL ARTIST AND PROGRAMME LEADER
Mark guided me through the conception of this project, by providing uses insight into experts to approach and key pieces of research. We mainly connected over zoom and e-mail, to which he aided me in any queries I had about visualising my research, including ethics also.
Adam Roberts
FILM PRODUCTION STUDENT
Adam's experience within the realm of TV and Film, allowed a clear avenue of collaboration. We engaged in several meetings to discuss the concept for my soundscapes and to view my soundscape samples.
